QUALCOMM Incorporated plans to offer thousands of copies of its Eudora Pro Internet e-mail software to attendees at the Republican National Convention in San Diego, Aug. 11-15, 1996.
Nearly 20,000 GOP delegates and media will receive a time-expiring free trial copy of Eudora Pro 2.2 for Windows upon registration at this year's convention. The Eudora family is currently the world's most popular Internet e-mail software with more than 10 million users, 63.5 percent worldwide market share for Internet e-mail, and 70.9 percent share of all new Internet electronic mailboxes.
"Electronic communications is a quick, easy and cost-effective way for constituents and their government officials to communicate," stated Craig Brenner, director of Worldwide Marketing, Eudora division of QUALCOMM. "Eudora Pro is the No. 1 choice of Internet e-mail users everywhere, and we want to ensure conventioneers get an opportunity to sample its best-of-class capability," added Brenner.
According to Highway 1, a Washington-based technology advocacy group, 87 percent of U.S. Senators and 45 percent of House Representatives listed e-mail addresses as of June 1, 1996. These numbers mark a sharp increase from May of last year when less than 35 percent of Senators and 20 percent of House Representatives had e-mail addresses.
"This undertaking represents our single largest one-time, free mass distribution of Eudora Pro to date," explained Brenner. "It's an extension of our belief in seeding the market with free products -- a highly successful initiative we helped pioneer years ago with the distribution of Eudora Light freeware."
Eudora Pro software is available through nearly all major U.S. retail chains, including Egghead Software, CompUSA, Best Buy, MicroCenter and Fry's Electronics. Eudora Pro software is also available through mail order catalogs, such as Multiple Zones International (MAC Zone and PC Zone) and PC Connection Inc. (MAC Connection and PC Connection), giving Eudora Pro software excellent market exposure in every key channel.
Eudora Pro software for PC and Macintosh computers carries a suggested list price of $89. Eudora Light software is free and is available from QUALCOMM at http://www.eudora.com.
QUALCOMM's award-winning Eudora Pro and Eudora Light software are Internet-based e-mail packages available for the PC, Macintosh and Newton platforms.
