Farallon to Bundle RunShare with Fast Ethernet Cards

Farallon Communications, Inc. announced that it is bundling the RunShare client (version 2.0) free of charge with its Fast Ethernet cards to deliver up to five times faster performance to customers over its previous offerings, making Farallon the industry leader in Macintosh Fast Ethernet price/performance.

RunShare, file transfer acceleration software from RUN, Inc., is available immediately with Farallon's FastEtherTX-10/100 PCI and NuBus cards to meet the demands of Macintosh users who typically transfer large, graphic-intensive files and require higher speed technologies. "We are pleased to be providing patent-pending RUN technology to Farallon so that the combined solution will yield the maximum output of any Fast Ethernet card on the market today," said Steve Holder, president of Run. By bundling RunShare with Farallon's Fast Ethernet adapters, users will be able to optimize the bandwidth of this new network technology," added Holder. Farallon recently announced an aggressive industry-leading move to eliminate economic barriers for Fast Ethernet migration with significant price reductions and very attractive upgrade programs for its family of Fast Ethernet products. The cost benefits are even greater now that RunShare will be bundled with the cards for the same low U.S. estimated street price of $199 for the PCI card and $249 for the NuBus card. Farallon's Fast Ethernet family consists of the Fast EtherTX-10/100 PCI and NuBus Cards, the Fast Starlet 100TX/8 Hub, and the Fast Starlet 10/100 Bridge, giving customers a complete family of Fast Ethernet products from which to build their network. #012# As part of the upgrade program, Farallon will accept a "trade-in" of any vendor's 10Mbps Ethernet NuBus card for an extra discount of $60 off of a Farallon Fast Ethernet NuBus Card, or a trade in of any vendor's LocalTalk or Ethernet hub for added discounts of $200 for a Farallon 100Mbps Fast Ethernet hub or $300 for its hub/bridge combination product.

Unique Fast Ethernet Family Farallon's Fast Ethernet family of products provides an easy way for users to expand the capacity of their LANs to support increasing bandwidth requirements of 100Mbps, and also offer integrated support for connectivity to an existing 10Mbps Ethernet network. The products were designed for customers requiring higher bandwidth to support data-intensive network applications such as those used by graphics arts, pre-press graphics, publishing workgroups and engineering. Typically, these are people that need to quickly share, transfer and print multi-megabyte color graphics files.

The Fast EtherTX-10/100 PCI and NuBus Cards are based on 3Com's high performance 10/100 chipset, rated fastest in the industry. They each incorporate a single auto-sensing 10/100 RJ-45 port and can operate on either a 10Mbps 10Base-T or 100Mbps 100Base-TX network for flexibility. And, unlike competitive solutions, the driver is built onto the card eliminating any software installation requirements.
