Eastman Kodak Company's Business Imaging Systems division today announced a flexible, modular software system tailored to the needs of service bureaus and in-house centralized scanning or mailroom departments that enables them to easily process and manage large volumes of documents.

The Kodak Digital Science Professional Capture Management System (PCMS) is a production-level document capture, processing and output system. The client-server system is designed to operate across a broad range of computer environments.

The PCMS is an integrated solution that automatically performs many of the operations needed between the basic scanning of pages to the creation of usable information in customer-specified format and media. The system is able to simultaneously process and control batches of documents belonging to many different jobs and customers. The system is designed to meet the needs of service providers averaging an input volume starting at approximately 10,000 documents per day with one or more concurrent client connections, to organizations averaging 100,000+ documents per day with 25 or more concurrent users and/or background processes.

The Professional Capture Management System will be available worldwide this fall. The base system begins at $30,000. As an alternative to outright purchase, Kodak is offering a "price-per-click" plan. This pricing plan enables service providers to pay only for what they use, and accommodates the fluctuating workloads prevalent in their environment.
