12th Annual Macworld Expo Boston Sets New Attendance Record Surpassing 58,000!

 

58,600 visitors entered the doors of the Bayside Exposition Center and the World Trade Center, Boston from August 7th thru August 10th. MACWORLD Expo Boston, the largest Macintosh-focused event on the East Coast had 400 exhibitors spanning 126,671 square feet. This year's Macworld Expo supported the launch of hundreds of new products during the three-day extravaganza.

The line started forming by 7:00 am on Wednesday for attendees to hear Dr. Gilbert Amelio, Apple Chairman and CEO, give the opening keynote address. Dr. Amelio's focused on his plan to restore the company's cachet. He discussed the most recent advances on the Macintosh platform and offered a glimpse of future innovations and new developments. Amelio's speech drew a standing ovation from several thousand loyalists, customers and developers.

Following Dr. Amelio was Netscape's dynamic duo, Jim Barksdale and Marc Andreesen, sharing their insights on the impact of the Internet today and tomorrow. It was the first time that these three newsmaking industry leaders shared a public stage in Boston. The third and final keynote featured Guy Kawasaki, Apple Fellow and "MAC Evangelist."

- Developer's Greenhouse -

Developer's Greenhouse contained 18 of the hottest new developers for the Macintosh. Their products ranged from Internet applications, to publishing software, to networking tool, to games. Over 130 companies applied to be included in the Greenhouse and only 18 were chosen. Most of these companies were showing their first product for the first time.

- Business Solutions Pavilion - Education Pavilion -

The Business Solutions Pavilion, sponsored by Apple Computer and Apple Business Consortium, offered one-stop shopping for all small business needs. Experts were available to answer questions relative to the latest Macintosh business solutions, explore a variety of business management and productivity solutions or to help start or expand a business. The Education Pavilion featured the latest in educational software and multimedia. Products were available for school or home and for every curriculum.

Other show highlights were the: The Internet Connection, sponsored by The Computer Museum and Net Daemons Associates, offering free 45 minute classes Wednesday thru Saturday applicable to the Internet. Such topics included Marketing Strategies, Design, Security and much more. The Net Zone, a premier showcase, for Internet products, presented by boston.com, featured the latest in Internet hardware/software, electronic commerce security and encryption.
