Humongous Entertainment's to Launch New Junior Arcade Series of CD-ROM Games

Putt-Putt the lovable talking purple roadster who has won more than 37 industry awards of excellence, will launch a new series of action-packed Junior Arcade games from Humongous Entertainment , a subsidiary GT Interactive Software Corp.

Putt-Putt and Pep's Balloon-O-Rama and Putt-Putt and Pep's Dog on a Stick CD-ROMs will pop and hop into stores October 18 for $14.95 each, captivating kids ages 3-8 with new worlds of hand-animated fun.

"Older kids have been enjoying arcade games for years, but most arcade game content is not designed for 3 to 8 year olds. Our new series of Junior Arcade games delivers high-quality, nonviolent, action-packed fun. Now, the entire family can enjoy classic arcade gameplay with their favorite animated friends," said Ralph Giuffre, Humongous Entertainment executive vice president of marketing and licensing.

Putt-Putt's games have earned top awards and honors from organizations including the National Parenting Center Seal of Approval and publications including C|NET, CD-ROM Today, CD-ROM World, Children's Software Revue, Compute, Computer Gaming World, Computer Museum Guide to the Best Software for Kids, Family Fun, Family PC, Home PC, Mac Home Journal, MacUser, Multimedia World, Parenting Magazine, PC Entertainment and PC World.

Putt-Putt and Pep's Balloon-O-Rama

Kids will have a blast helping Putt-Putt bounce his pal Pep into the air to pop colorful balloons -- some filled with hidden surprises. Putt-Putt and Pep's Balloon-O-Rama features 120 levels of action and hidden bonus rounds.

Balloon-O-Rama designer Rhett Mathis said, "We've created an animated world of arcade fun and made it kid-friendly. Features like Junior Helper, with Easy Catch and Never Lose Pep modes, make gameplay easy for young children."

Popping multiple balloons in a single bounce earns players more points than popping them one at a time. When Putt-Putt catches goodies, like candy that falls from popping balloons, kids earn extra points. When he catches garbage that falls from popping balloons, the kids lose points -- but their scores never fall below zero.

Special prizes that fall from popping balloons make Putt-Putt as long as a limousine or increase Pep's popping power. Just when you think you're about to clear a level, surprise balloons can inflate to fill the screen with new challenges. Hit the space ship when it zooms by, and discover point-racking bonus rounds that are truly out of this world.

Putt-Putt and Pep's Dog on a Stick

Join Pep as he hops from one wacky world to the next in Putt-Putt and Pep's Dog on a Stick. Kids will jump for joy as they help their furry friend collect goodies and avoid a variety of critters while he works his way through more than 100 challenging levels of hound-hopping fun.

Dog on a Stick designer Matt Mahon said, "Fun foes like pigs with jet packs, frogs on sticks, dancing penguins, stinky skunks, pouncing tigers and other wacky obstacles make Dog on a Stick as challenging as it is fun."

Kids can rack up bonus points by having Pep pick up a variety of special items. Bones, candy, cherries, shells, ice cream and steaks are just a few of the items that pile up the points. But don't forget there are lots of pesky items and creatures bouncing around in each world that make grabbing goodies a challenge.

Players can direct Pep to land on power-ups that give him double-jump capability, hot chocolate that makes him move faster, a Super-Pep Cape to wear while he confronts critters and earns bonus points, and even a bonus Pep. Other lively gameplay surprises include bonus rounds, buttons that trigger changes on the playing field, slippery oil, sticky goo, "teleporters," moving platforms, and trampolines.

Kids can personalize the action with the easy-to-use Custom Level Builder. They can select hand-drawn backgrounds and fill Pep's landing spaces on the screen with a variety of special items and creatures. In just a few mouse clicks, kids can play levels that they created.
