VXtreme, Inc. announced its support for Apple Computer's QuickTime 2.5 for Windows by enabling its Web Theater Producer software to convert QuickTime files into VXtreme's VXpress streaming video format. Web Theater Producer enables users to extend the usability of their QuickTime videos by converting, encoding, and compressing them into the VXtreme file format for real-time delivery over the Internet. By supporting Apple QuickTime for Windows format, VXtreme makes it easy for users to repurpose their existing QuickTime video for delivery over the Internet and corporate intranets. The new conversion feature will be available in the next version of Web Theater Producer in December 1996, and will be demonstrated at VXtreme's Comdex booth in Pavilion 5, Booth C3 from November 18 - 22, 1996.
"Today, the use of dynamic media and video remain elusive to corporate intranet and Internet information services such as training, product communication and asset management," said Carlos Montalvo, Vice President Interactive Media Group, Apple Computer. "QuickTime's codec independence and media rich architecture, combined with VXtreme's advanced compression technologies will make real-time video a pervasive and compelling media type for both corporate intranets and the Internet."
"VXtreme recognizes QuickTime as a unifying industry-standard for creating multimedia content for the Web, CD-ROMs, and virtually any time-based, graphically-rich information," said Jamie Rapperport, vice president of marketing, VXtreme. "We are supporting the QuickTime for Windows format because we are committed to populating the Web with the highest-quality streaming video available. This partnership is a significant step towards making Internet video as ubiquitous as CD-ROMs."
